I’m Susan Oliver Nelson—author, writer, and believer that the best stories are often the ones rooted in real life.
I’ve spent years writing professionally, but storytelling has always been part of who I am. I’m drawn to moments that feel honest and human—the kind that make you pause, smile, remember, or feel a little less alone. Whether I’m writing for adults or children, my work is grounded in warmth, connection, and the idea that everyday experiences matter.
My debut children’s book, BFFs: A Story About Cooper & Buster, was inspired by love, loyalty, and the simple magic of companionship. It reflects the themes I return to again and again: friendship, family, resilience, and the bonds that stay with us long after the moment has passed.
When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me outdoors at our cozy home in the colorful Colorado mountains, chasing good light, wearing a favorite hat, and collecting stories wherever life happens to unfold. I believe storytelling doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful—it just has to be true.
Thanks for being here. I’m really glad you found your way.

Trips of Daisy, a journey through a thousand days of deployment, captures the life of a military family struggling through a thousand days of deployment in Iraq.

A gripping, murderous tale of a triumphant struggle through life that succumbs to a blessed evil after killing the intruder. Follow the life of a survivor who shows the world tenacity works, but life’s messy consequences must still be faced.
